When a heating bill is difficult to manage, start with the agency serving your county of residence. LIHEAP can help eligible households with energy costs. The agency decides eligibility and available assistance; an appointment does not guarantee payment.
For help with energy-saving work on the house or a smoke-alarm installation request, use the warmer, safer home guide. Weatherization can use a different county provider.
Use the agency for your home address.
Carroll County
Community Action For Improvement (CAFI) also serves Coweta, Heard, Meriwether and Troup counties.
Appointment line: 706-307-6670. Carroll service center: 619 Willie North Street, Carrollton; 706-882-6412, option 4. Arrange the appointment before visiting.
Community Services also covers Bartow, Cobb, Floyd, Gordon, Paulding and Polk. Confirm the program and intake location for your own county.
The current home-page notice says the Paulding office at 145 Academy Drive has closed and staff have temporarily moved to Douglasville. Call before traveling; the older office list still shows Dallas.
These are announced registration dates, checked October 15, 2026, and conditional on funding. Check the provider again before the date. This page does not check live appointment slots.
Tallatoona: Haralson, Douglas and its other service counties
December 1, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern: announced registration for senior households in which all adults are 65 or older, and qualifying medically homebound households. Homebound status needs documentation; call 770-773-7730, extension 300, about that process.
January 4, 2027, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern: announced general-public registration, subject to remaining funds. Tallatoona says general-public bookings made before that date will be canceled.
Use the current home-page announcement and its official scheduler. The detailed LIHEAP page still contains last season’s heating dates; do not carry those older dates into this winter’s plans.
CAFI: Carroll, Heard, Coweta, Meriwether and Troup
The reviewed program and FAQ pages do not establish a new 2026–27 heating opening date. The FAQ still displays a May 2026 cooling date. Ask CAFI when your household may register. Tallatoona’s December and January dates do not establish CAFI’s schedule.
A short call can save a wasted trip.
Give your county and heating source. Ask which household members count for eligibility and whether the provider works with your energy supplier.
Ask for the current document checklist. Common items include the applicant’s photo ID, Social Security cards for household members, recent household income records, and current heating and electric bills.
Ask how to document no income, propane or wood heat, or a medically homebound household. Keep recent fuel receipts; the agency must tell you what it accepts.
Keep your appointment confirmation and confirm the address. Tallatoona requires a valid confirmation number or email and says not to email client documents.
Provide personal documents only through the agency’s instructions. Please do not place household, financial or medical details in a public comment here.
If a disconnection deadline comes first
Call your energy supplier using the number on your bill and ask what arrangements or referrals it can offer. Tell the assistance agency the actual shutoff date. Keep paying what your agreement requires while an application is considered; applying does not itself stop a disconnection.
Our local-help page links to additional assistance contacts. Ask the provider directly about urgent options and current resources. Moss & Sons does not determine benefits or promise emergency funding.
