Measure the line

Use one run for each separate stretch. Leave gate openings out. This plans one row.

Review planning assumptions

No contact details required. Measurements stay in this tab until you choose to carry them to a request. General tool-use events do not include your answers.

Enter the length and desired height, review the assumptions, then calculate.

You will get a plant count, layout spacing and mulch quantity. Daniel can use that starting point to check suitable stock, access, watering and a written scope.

How this count works

For each separate run: plant count = length ÷ maximum spacing, rounded up. Divide the length into that many equal cells and center one plant in each cell. The first and last plants sit half a cell from the ends. One plant is centered in a short run.

For example, 120 ft at a maximum 6 ft spacing gives 20 plants, 6 ft between centers and 3 ft end offsets. Two separate 7 ft runs need four plants at the same setting, rather than treating the runs as one continuous line.

Mulch volume = total length × bed width × depth in inches ÷ 324. This is gross rectangular coverage; subtract existing mulch and trunk clearances before ordering. This tool does not determine setbacks, legal boundaries, drainage design or irrigation demand.

UGA recommends a wide planting hole and explains why adding organic amendments to individual holes is generally unnecessary. Planting depth and soil preparation depend on the actual root system and drainage. Species selection and final spacing need a site review.
