A homeowner needed an approximately 20-by-25-foot gravel parking area beside an existing driveway for a planned carport.
The work
Moss & Sons prepared the ground with a mini excavator, cleaned the edges by hand, compacted the ground, and installed 10 tons of crusher run within the agreed footprint.

RECORDED SCOPE · COMPLETED SEPTEMBER 11, 2026
500 square feet. Ten tons. A $2,400 completed project.
The job record identifies a 20 × 25-foot parking area in Carrollton and 10 tons of crusher run. The completed project price was $2,400. That price belongs to this specific scope and date; it is not a current offer for every 500-square-foot pad.
| Footprint | 20 × 25 feet = 500 square feet |
|---|---|
| Material | 10 tons of crusher run |
| Equipment recorded | Mini excavator, NorthStar plate compactor and hand tools |
| Job-day time recorded | Approximately 9 hours, with quoting time recorded separately |
| Completed project price | $2,400 for the recorded work |
The work sequence
- Lay out the footprint. Establish the 20 × 25-foot area and its connection to the existing driveway.
- Prepare the ground. Remove sod and unsuitable surface material within the agreed work area.
- Shape the subgrade. Prepare the exposed ground and work the edges by hand where needed.
- Compact the exposed ground. The job record includes plate-compactor work before stone placement.
- Place the crusher run. Distribute the recorded 10 tons across the prepared area.
- Shape and compact the surface. Finish the parking area and the driveway connection.
The record documents the work and the finished appearance. It does not include a laboratory soil classification, a field density test, a measured uniform compacted thickness or a documented later storm assessment.
Why ten tons does not specify the next pad
Crusher run is a graded aggregate product containing a range of particle sizes and fines. Its loose volume and compacted condition depend on the supplied material and placement. Confirm the product and conversion with the supplier.
For illustration only, using a supplier conversion of 1.5 US short tons per loose cubic yard would convert 10 tons to about 6.67 cubic yards. Spread evenly over 500 square feet, that is about 4.32 inches of loose material. That calculation is not a measurement of this project's finished thickness and is not a design recommendation.
A new property needs its own review of subgrade, water, traffic, finished elevations, access and material section. Red clay exposed at one part of a site does not establish the strength or condition beneath the whole pad.
Use the price to ask better questions
The historical total divided by the footprint is $4.80 per square foot. It includes the recorded preparation and placement scope. It cannot tell you a separate labor rate, business profit or the price for another site.

PLANNING SIMILAR WORK
Agree the footprint and the next use first.
This project began with a defined parking-area footprint and a plan for a later carport. Preparing the ground, dressing the edges, compacting, and placing the crusher run were the agreed work.
A gravel pad and a finished carport are separate stages. For your property, discuss the intended use, access for equipment and materials, and any requirements from the installer before agreeing the ground work.
Questions about this kind of project
Does a parking pad quote include the carport?
Only if expressly included. This job covered the ground preparation and gravel area; carport installation was separate.
Would my parking area need 10 tons too?
Not necessarily. Area, existing ground, preparation and the agreed finished depth affect the quantity. Daniel reviews your property before confirming materials or price.
