The REVEAL X 3.0 We Own: Setup, Costs and What to Skip

Daniel owns the X 3.0. Here is what the published information supports, what cellular service adds, and where an extra purchase may be unnecessary.

Moss & Sons Field Journal · Published and sources checked October 11, 2026 · 7 minute read

What we can honestly say

Daniel confirmed the REVEAL X 3.0 as his camera and approved this feature. We have not recorded his battery-change intervals, missed-image rate, time in service or support experience. Those details will be added only when he supplies them.

The Pro 4 Solar discussed elsewhere on this website is a different, premium model. It is not the camera identified here. Our advice is to keep using serviceable equipment unless a specific unmet need justifies replacing it.

Begin with the equipment already supplied

Tactacam lists a tree strap, antenna and integrated SIM with the X 3.0. It has internal storage, so an SD card is optional. Power is additional: the published specification calls for 12 AA batteries or a compatible power arrangement. Read the exact model’s manual before installation.

Check permission, signal and a successful test delivery at the intended location. Confirm the camera clock. Keep the account and private location under the owner’s control. A cellular camera is unnecessary when checking a suitable non-cellular camera would meet the same need.

Watch the settings that can raise the bill

Starter and Intermediate can use optional Overage Protection. When enabled, it automatically buys another $5 block of 250 photographs after an allowance is used, and can keep buying more blocks. Review that setting if you need a firm spending limit.

HD media requests and Xtra are separate choices. Live View is also optional: Tactacam currently lists X 3.0 support with a Pro plan plus $6 monthly or $72 annually per camera, a compatible app, Instant Mode and suitable signal. Live streaming is not needed simply to receive ordinary photographs.

Seasonal use should have a seasonal billing check

For monthly service, use the actual pause controls before the next billing cycle. Turning motion sensitivity to zero does not stop billing. Xtra needs its own separate switch-off. Tactacam’s detailed support instructions say not to pause prepaid annual plans; check those instructions rather than assuming an annual purchase is refundable or behaves like monthly service.

Our recommendation is to start with the lowest plan that covers the photographs you actually need, then review real usage. Do not buy an annual plan solely because its monthly equivalent looks smaller.

Check the seller and the remedy if it fails

Use Tactacam’s own store or confirm the specific seller through its authorized-dealer information. A familiar marketplace name does not settle who sells the item. Keep the receipt and exact model number.

Tactacam publishes a one-year limited manufacturing-defect warranty for authorized channels. Its policy gives conflicting starting points—delivery in one section, activation or purchase in another—so confirm the applicable start date. Its direct-store return policy allows 30 days from receipt, excludes refunding original shipping, and requires return authorization. A different retailer’s terms need a separate check.

What would improve this guide

Useful field notes would include the actual power used, settings, signal, dated charging or replacement intervals, original photographs specifically identified as X 3.0 output, and failures as well as successes. Until then, manufacturer claims remain manufacturer claims. We are not awarding a reliability score or claiming this is the best camera on the market.

Compare the period you will actually use

First-camera base fees checked October 11, 2026. Annual prices are prepaid; tax, overages and optional services are excluded. The three-month column is arithmetic from the monthly fee.

One camera · base-plan costs in US dollars
PlanStandard photos/monthMonthlyThree monthly periodsAnnual upfront
Starter250$5$15$55
Intermediate500$8$24$85
ProUnlimited standard photos$13$39$120

A $99.99 camera plus $55 annual Starter service is a $154.99 partial subtotal, before power, shipping, tax or extras. Tactacam’s published standard continental-US shipping is $5.99, with free shipping above $100; confirm the actual checkout terms. Do not add an unwanted product merely to meet a shipping threshold.

Tactacam REVEAL X 3.0 · RV-TC-XGEN3

A sensible camera to keep using when it already meets the need.

Evidence
Daniel owns this model; manufacturer specifications checked. No measured Moss & Sons performance test.
Price basis
$99.99 for one camera in the manufacturer’s catalog. Power, cellular service, shipping and tax are additional.
Availability at check
Single-camera listing present; checkout inventory and delivery date not verified. The two-pack is a separate offer.
Consider it for
A property with usable cellular service where receiving photographs remotely is worth the recurring cost.
Skip it when
Your present camera works, remote delivery is unnecessary, or the location lacks usable signal.
Limits and buyer checks
A newer generation is not a reason by itself to replace this camera. Our owner-use statement is not a battery-life, image-quality or reliability guarantee.

REVEAL Lithium Cartridge V2 · RV-LBAT-V2

Optional replacement for repeated AA changes; wait for a verified offer.

Evidence
Manufacturer explicitly lists X 3.0 compatibility. No owner runtime or cycle-life measurements.
Price basis
Current standalone price unverified.
Availability at check
Manufacturer lists it out of stock at this check.
Consider it for
Repeated camera use where charging a matched cartridge is practical.
Skip it when
Your current power arrangement is satisfactory, or the extra cost cannot be justified.
Limits and buyer checks
This is the Gen 3.0-and-earlier cartridge. Do not assume a newer FlexPack fits. We have not calculated payback or repeated the advertised “up to” AA-replacement claim as a saving.

REVEAL Solar Panel V2 · RV-EXT-V2

Consider only for a sunny placement and a real maintenance need.

Evidence
Manufacturer lists X 3.0 compatibility and charging of its matching lithium cartridge.
Price basis
Standalone price unverified. A bundle is a different offer; do not assume it saves money.
Availability at check
Manufacturer’s power category marks this panel out of stock.
Consider it for
A suitable sunny location where battery-maintenance visits are inconvenient.
Skip it when
The location is shaded, use is occasional, or you already have adequate power.
Limits and buyer checks
The panel does not recharge ordinary AA batteries. Follow the current manual and keep suitable backup power. Sunlight and activity vary; uninterrupted power and financial payback are not established.

REVEAL Adjustable Tree Mount · R-A-TM-V3

Try the camera’s included strap first.

Evidence
Manufacturer lists the X 3.0 and horizontal/vertical adjustment.
Price basis
Current price unverified.
Availability at check
Manufacturer’s mounts category marks it out of stock.
Consider it for
A tree or post angle that prevents suitable aiming with the included strap.
Skip it when
The strap already gives a usable view.
Limits and buyer checks
Check the exact package and attachment method. Obtain landowner permission and follow property rules before using screws. We have not tested long-term weathering.
