Carroll County local dumps: where to take your trash
Looking for a local dump, trash drop-off or recycling center near Carrollton, Temple, Bowdon or Whitesburg? Carroll County calls its ten household drop-off sites convenience centers. The transfer station is a separate disposal option, with different fees and hours—even where it shares an address with a center.
Know about the 2027 pass change
Plan ahead: The Georgia Sun reported on September 29, 2026 that passes become required January 1, 2027: $50 per household annually, or $25 for residents age 65 and older. Its report says sales began October 1, 2026, with no pass required before January.
The county homepage now links a Convenience Center Pass application under “Apply For.” Its older center directory still says “no charge.” Read that alongside the newer announcement, not as a promise of permanently free service.
The Georgia Sun lists in-person sales at Community Development, 423 College Street, Carrollton, and an online application. It describes photo ID and county-residency documentation, with processing or mailing fees possible. Confirm the current requirements before applying. Read the September 29 report; FOX 5 also reported the upcoming fee on August 18.
These centers serve Carroll County residents. Ask Solid Waste: 770-832-1233 about your address and load; a nearby Haralson address or permit does not establish eligibility.

Check the load before leaving home
- Household bags: these are household trash drop-off sites. Ask about quantity limits and commercial loads.
- Furniture, mattresses and bulky items: published sources conflict. Older directories list furniture, while later reporting describes a July 2026 change sending bulky items to the transfer station. Call Solid Waste before loading; this guide does not promise center acceptance.
- Recycling: accepted materials vary by location. The county card and Keep Carroll Beautiful’s newer web directory disagree about some materials, including cardboard. Confirm the specific material with your center.
- Refrigerators, freezers and other refrigerant appliances: the county excludes these from its centers and transfer station. Ask for an approved disposal option.
- Limbs, yard debris, carpet, building materials and tires: contact the transfer station about acceptance, preparation and charges. Do not assume they belong in household containers.
- Paint, chemicals, batteries or other unusual waste: ask for the appropriate collection option. Keep Carroll Beautiful publishes recycling and collection-event information; check an event’s actual date and rules.
Furniture discrepancy: county directory and August 19, 2026 reporting. We have not independently confirmed the current item-by-item furniture policy with the county.
The transfer station: a different trip
439 Simonton Mill Road, Carrollton, GA 30117. Call 770-832-1233.
The county’s published sheet lists Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–3:45 p.m., with the gate closing at 3:45; Sunday closed. Keep Carroll Beautiful lists a 3:30 p.m. close. Confirm the day’s last acceptance time and arrive well before it. Do not use the convenience center’s evening hours for a transfer-station load.
The county sheet lists household/commercial refuse at $70 per ton with a $25 minimum, and separated yard debris/limbs at $54 per ton with a $25 minimum. Tires cost extra. Confirm the price and accepted load before hauling; the convenience-center annual pass is not a transfer-station tipping-fee payment.
The sheet also restricts long construction materials and excludes hazardous waste, liquids and several other materials. Read the full county transfer-station sheet or call before loading. This is not a complete acceptance list.
A simple first trip
- Confirm Carroll County residency and the pass requirement for your visit date.
- Describe the materials and amount; ask whether the center or transfer station is appropriate.
- Check that location’s hours and today’s closures.
- Open the map listing, verify the facility, secure the load and follow the attendant’s directions.
Sources, limits and corrections
This independent guide combines county publications, the local recycling organization’s directory and dated reporting about the upcoming pass. The newer policy reporting is attributed rather than presented as a direct conversation with county staff. Conflicting hours and material rules remain labeled. We have not verified entrances in person, telephoned the centers or completed a pass purchase.
