Where to take your trash: local dumps and convenience centers in Haralson County
Looking for the local dump or a place to take your trash? Many of us simply call it “taking the trash to the dump.” Haralson County calls its six household trash drop-off sites convenience centers. They are separate from the county-listed landfill, which has different hours and may charge fees. Start with your home’s jurisdiction, then choose a disposal option. A mailing address alone may not settle whether a home is inside city limits.
The county’s newcomer page directs city residents to city hall for trash service. People in unincorporated areas arrange their own household disposal.
Get the permit before the first trip
Haralson requires an annual permit, one per household, renewed by January 31. Apply at the Commissioner’s Office, 155 Van Wert Street, Buchanan, with a tax or utility bill, mortgage statement, or lease.
| Home’s jurisdiction | Published annual permit cost |
|---|---|
| Unincorporated Haralson, Buchanan or Waco | Free |
| Bremen or Tallapoosa | $40 |
Ask the county: 770-646-2002. Its dedicated center page gives these fees; the newcomer page’s broader “no charge” wording omits the city distinction. Confirm your address when applying.

These are the county’s published location descriptions. Choose Apple Maps or Google Maps, or copy the location into another app. Map buttons open a search, not a verified entrance pin. Check the returned place against the road and county before starting navigation. Exact entrances remain to be confirmed.

What can go in the load?
The county lists household garbage, bulk waste and recyclables; bagged residential garbage is limited to 10 bags per trip.
That broad description is not an item-by-item acceptance list. Before loading paint, chemicals, batteries, tires, appliances, electronics, construction debris or yard waste, ask which facility accepts the item, how it must be prepared, and whether a fee applies. We have not verified acceptance of those items at the six centers.
What about a larger cleanout?
The landfill has separate hours, fees and load rules from the six convenience centers. Call 770-574-5414 before loading to confirm acceptance, charges and the entrance.
Confirm the entrance before using directions: the county’s newcomer directory lists 224 Budapest Cemetery Road, Tallapoosa. The Water Authority’s H.C. Solid Waste page lists 222 Landfill Road, Tallapoosa. We have not established whether these describe the same entrance. Neither address is presented here as a verified navigation destination.
Both sources list Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m.–3 p.m. The solid-waste page also says it is closed on Sundays and holidays, and that customers must finish unloading, weighing and payment before closing. Confirm the day’s opening and your load’s fees with the facility.
Updated October 13, 2026: added the conflicting landfill address and holiday/closing guidance; removed direct landfill map buttons pending entrance confirmation.
A simple first-trip checklist
- Confirm your address’s jurisdiction and whether city pickup is available.
- Obtain the household permit and ask how to display it.
- Describe unusual items before loading; ask about quantities and fees.
- Check the day’s opening, confirm the entrance, and follow the attendant’s instructions.

This independent guide uses published county information, not telephone confirmation or field inspections. Map points represent geocoded road areas, not facility entrances. Holiday closures, detailed material acceptance and unusual loads need county confirmation.
