West Georgia & our Alabama neighbors

The Moss & Sons
Field Journal

Learn the woods.
Care for the land.
Bring someone along.

Deer and hunting are our beginning. Here is room for the child with questions, the first-time hunter, the person returning after years away, and the landowner deciding what to do next.

Several white-tailed deer standing and moving through shallow water at a wooded creek crossing.

A note from Daniel

I have hunted before, but I haven’t hunted much lately. I want to get back into it.

That is where this journal begins: with something to learn, original family photographs, and a wish to make the woods more familiar to our neighbors. We will distinguish what we have observed from what we have researched. Experience matters; so does being willing to check it.

From your neck of the woods

West Georgia Trail Cams

Deer, foxes, birds and the visitors you almost missed. Share a wildlife photo or a public camera, video or album link. Town or county is plenty; every submission waits for review.

Pictures worth keeping · Stories worth passing down

The West Georgia Game & Fish Wall

A first bream, a fine buck, a squirrel hunt with Dad, or a photograph from the family album. Share legally harvested game or a lawful catch, and leave a kind word for a neighbor.

Education, permission and a sensible first outing.

Before the Hunt, Make a Deer-Carcass Plan

A cooler and processor are not the whole plan. Decide how you will report, test, move, hand off and lawfully dispose of a deer before a harvest.
