Heavy rain can wash E. coli and other contaminants into natural water while changing current, depth, debris, and obstructions. Moss & Sons does not sample this river. Avoid water contact after heavy rain and while water is muddy, discolored, odorous, foamy, scummy, high, fast, advised, closed, or uncertain. No fixed wait creates an all-clear.

01 · CHECK TODAY
Open the source.
Make the decision.
Conditions, access, and warnings can change after this page is written. Open the current sources yourself, then pause if anything important remains uncertain. Moss & Sons does not provide a “safe today” signal.
OFFICIAL DATA · TRANSLATED, NOT OVERRULED
What the river data
is pointing toward.
See the reading, its direction, how recent flow compares with the historical range for this calendar date, and nearby rainfall. These are decision inputs—not permission to launch and never a “safe today” rating.
SOURCE-REPORTED RIVER ORDER · ORIENTATION ONLY
Three names to verify.
No route line yet.
Current sources identify these access names in this order. The full guide records source-listed locators, attributed section estimates, and their conflicts. Parking rights, openings, landing conditions, route geometry, and present hazards still require independent confirmation.

One unresolved essential is enough.
- Access, parking, takeout, or a needed portage is not lawfully confirmed.
- A warning, closure, thunder, rising water, or conditions beyond the group's ability are present.
- Water is high, fast, muddy, scummy, unusually discolored, foul-smelling, or near a suspicious discharge.
- A properly fitted life jacket, required equipment, sober operator, dependable shore contact, or rescue plan is missing.
For danger to life or property, call 911. Give the best location and landmarks you have, then follow the dispatcher's instructions. Do not assume cell service.
Moss & Sons does not monitor trips, receive alerts, provide rescue, verify access, or guarantee conditions. A checked box cannot make a changing river safe.
02 · TRIP CARD FOR SOMEONE ASHORE
Make the plan
someone back home needs.
Record the few details a dependable person needs to know when to expect you and when to call for help. No account is required. Nothing on this card is submitted to Moss & Sons.
Saving creates one browser record only when you choose. The app restores it for up to seven days and removes an expired record the next time this page opens. It is not encrypted, and anyone using this browser profile may be able to read it. Moss & Sons does not receive or back up this record. Your browser may erase it sooner.

03 · PACK FOR THIS OUTING
Core safety first.
Add what applies.
The core list stays. Add paddling, fishing, camping, children, and broad weather reminders, then mark what is packed. This is a starting checklist—not training or a declaration that the trip is safe.
Fishing this trip? Open rules, fish-consumption warning & starter ideas
Georgia EPD's currently posted guide says do not eat black crappie from the Tallapoosa River tested site listed as “Ga Hwy 27” because of mercury and thallium. This is a narrow species-and-tested-site statement—not a claim that every fish or the whole river has the same recommendation.

04 · NOTICE MORE
Come alive to the place.
Leave it undisturbed.
This is an observation companion, not a wildlife identifier. A sighting means “something worth noticing,” not proof of a species. Never publish nests, dens, rare animals, private access, or exact coordinates.
Give children words they can remember.
- Ask the adult in charge before approaching the bank or water.
- Wear a properly fitted, fully fastened life jacket for the planned activity.
- Tell the adult about fast, muddy, foul-smelling water, dead fish, wildlife, injury, or a missing person.
- Call the adult or 911 for help. Never enter the water to rescue.
Keep children close and constantly supervised. Keep a young or weak swimmer within arm's reach. Never swallow river water; wash hands before eating.
Stop. Give room.
Move children and pets away calmly. Never handle, corner, kill, or try to catch a snake. For a suspected venomous bite, call 911; do not wait for symptoms, use ice or a tourniquet, cut or suck the wound, or capture the snake.

Never taste, harvest, or use this page—or a photo app—to decide whether a wild mushroom is edible. If one is eaten, call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222; call 911 for severe symptoms.
UGA Extension mushroom safety ↗ (opens in a new tab)Cover. Read the label.
Use covering clothing and an EPA-registered repellent exactly as its label directs. Adults apply it to children—not on their hands—and follow label age limits. Permethrin is for clothing or gear, not skin. “Natural” alone does not establish protection.

Observe and photograph from a respectful distance. Do not feed, chase, touch, corner, collect, or move wildlife.

A texture: bark, stone, current, or leaf.
- 02
A sign of life without revealing a nest, den, or coordinate.

This Companion does not request or receive photographs. Your phone or cloud-photo service may retain them under its own settings.
05 · OFF THE WATER
Close the loop.
Then clear what you saved.
Tell the dependable person holding your plan that everybody is off the water. Sharing that update and clearing this browser are separate choices; one never happens automatically.
Before leaving, count people and vessels, collect fishing line and trash, and carry forward one thing your family noticed with gratitude.
